Biarritz, which was once a seaside resort popular with European nobility, is a destination that has lost none of its prestige. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, it is today favoured by a demanding clientele who appreciate its beautiful sandy beaches, its temperate climate, its chic and elegant establishments, its architectural wealth or its seaside activities. Michaël Zingraf Real Estate, a specialist in prestigious real estate, presents the must-see places in Biarritz, as well as the restaurants and activities not to be missed during your stay.

What are the must-see places in Biarritz?

Biarritz is the leading destination on the Basque coast and attracts many visitors every year. It also attracts a large number of newcomers who have decided to settle in this charming seaside town.

BEACHES AND SEASIDE

Biarritz owes part of its fame to its magnificent beaches which stretch over 4 kilometres of coastline. Located in the heart of the town or nearby, these beautiful stretches of fine sand offer delicious moments of relaxation with family or friends. Among the most famous beaches of the city are the Grande Plage, the Côte des Basques and the Marbella beach - a real surfers' paradise -, the Miramar beach or the superb cove of the Port Vieux.

THE BIARRITZ LIGHTHOUSE

The Biarritz lighthouse attracts thousands of visitors every year. Listed as a historical monument, this beautiful structure built in 1854 offers a panoramic view of the city and the coastline from the Pointe Saint-Martin.

THE ATALAYE PLATEAU

Located near the Grande Plage and the Casino Barrière, the Atalaye plateau is a geological curiosity not to be missed during your discovery of Biarritz. Accessible on foot, this rocky spur has become an emblem of the city. On your way there, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the city and its coastline.

THE FISHERMEN'S PORT

Less crowded than the beaches of the city centre during the summer season, the fishermen's port is an ideal destination for discovering the delicious gastronomy of the Basque Country and for lounging in the picturesque little streets of the area. To this day, the area has retained a village atmosphere. It is home to the famous fishermen's houses of the region: the famous crampottes with their colourful doors and shutters.

THE VIRGIN ROCK

Symbol of the city of Biarritz, the Virgin Rock is located in the ocean, a few dozen meters from the coast. To get there, visitors take a metal footbridge dating from the end of the 19th century called the Passerelle Eiffel. They can admire the statue of the Virgin, installed on the top of the rock, as well as the marvellous panorama which is offered to them.

THE HALLES MARKET IN BIARRITZ

A must-see destination in Biarritz, the Halles market will allow you to taste top quality local products (seafood, fish, truffles...) and delicious Basque specialities.

Things to do in Biarritz

Biarritz offers a multitude of activities during your stay on the Basque Coast. Thrill-seekers can try their hand at surfing in the town's many surf schools, while lovers of the marine world will be delighted by the impressive Biarritz Aquarium and the Cité de l'Océan. To discover the city's prestigious heritage, consider visiting the bar of the Hôtel du Palais: a luxury establishment built under the orders of Napoleon III. You can also relax in the Maison Miremont, a tea room founded in 1872 and much appreciated by high society.
